Hai debuts with ‘Going Somewhere’ on 1980, an EP where the producer and multi-instrumentist based in Porto creates a new space between the dance floor and the jazz clubs of New Orleans.
Combining electronic loops aimed for the dance floor with instruments such as the marimbas, vibraphone, guitar or saxophone, the musician also known as Bababa finds a balance between musical universes and expands his sound to create new musical narratives that, more than make us dance, accompany us on our daily journey.
From the slow burning groove of the title track Going Somewhere, where the tone for the EP is set by gentle and dreamy melodies over a steady four-by-four beat, to Bongos & Vibraphones’ compelling and hypnotising percussive loops or M’s Song’s playful interaction between saxophone and breakbeats, this record confirms Hai as one of the most talented new artists to come out of Porto’s thriving electronic music scene.
